UniProt-GOA: Quick tour
نویسنده
چکیده
The Gene Ontology (GO [5]) is a dynamic controlled vocabulary [6] that details the biological processes, molecular functions and cellular components of a generic cell. The UniProt-Gene Ontology Annotation (UniProt-GOA [7]) project uses GO to describe proteins in UniProtKB [8]. The project has assigned GO terms to all complete and incomplete proteomes that exist in UniProtKB, using a combination of manual and automatic annotation [9]. For more information about the Gene Onotology, see the GO quick tour [2].

Why do we need UniProt? As the number of completely sequenced genomes continues to increase, huge efforts are being made in the research community to understand as much as possible about the proteins encoded by these genomes. This work is critical to many areas of science including biology, medicine and biotechnology and is generating a wealth of data. UniProt provides an up-to-date, comprehens...
متن کاملThe Gene Ontology Annotation database (GOA): A community resource of GO annotations to the UniProt Knowledgebase
The Gene Ontology Annotation (GOA) database (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/GOA) provides highquality electronic and manual annotations to the UniProt Knowledgebase using the standardized vocabulary of the Gene Ontology (GO). As a supplementary archive of GO annotation, GOA promotes a high level of integration of the knowledge represented in UniProt with other databases. This is achieved by converting Un...

متن کاملPRIDE: Quick tour
PRIDE is a core member in the ProteomeXchange (PX) consortium [6], which provides a standard framework for the submission and dissemination of mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics data to public-domain repositories. PRIDE acts as the initial submission point of MS/MS data. Datasets are then submitted to ProteomeXchange via PRIDE and are handled by expert biocurators. PRIDE also integrates th...

The European Nucleotide Archive [2] (ENA) provides a comprehensive, accessible and publicly available repository for nucleotide sequence data. The ENA attracts users from a multitude of research disciplines and serves as an underlying data infrastructure for other EBI services, including Ensembl [3], Ensembl Genomes [4], UniProt [5] and ArrayExpress [6]. Data submitted to the ENA are validated ...
